Bravo Group - Day 6

Aug 17, 2013 – Day 06
Today was an exciting day. For those who slept at Monticle, they woke up early this morning, ate bread for breakfast and cleaned up the HQ. For those who slept at the hotel, they woke up early this morning, and had complimentary breakfast before coming to HQ. We were separated into four groups (Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta), with two seniors in each group.
Our destination: downtown Toronto.
Our goal: to find six locations and take a group picture each. Some of the pictures will have to include strangers in it.
We started out early (to avoid traffic congestion) and end at a relative good time (with less traffic). We were glad to have Phil (an instructor) to join us today and watch over us (so we don’t get too lost or get into trouble). Many different parts of downtown Toronto were scene. After all the locations were found and pictures were taken, somehow or another most of us ended up in Eaton Centre for lunch and shopping. We arrived back to Monticle HQ for blogs, picture uploads (out of everyone’s personal cameras) and hamburger dinner.
From this day, we learned a lot about basic navigational skills, detailed planning (of the trip and which locations to go to first), transportation (whether on foot, streetcar, or subway), and communication (for travelling in groups and speaking to strangers). Overall it was quite a fun day. Tomorrow, we will be going to Niagara for the second part of today’s lesson.

Today we had a urban hike in Downtown Toronto. It was long and fairly tiring as I am not feeling good at all. Regularly, this walk, from place to place, would have been fine for me but due to my dizziness, dry throat and head aches, this walk was a bit painful. We, living in HQ, started the day at 0500 when we wake up, packed up and began cleaning the HQ. We finished cleaning the HQ at about 0620. The students living at the hotel finally arrived at 0727, and we finally departed from HQ to downtown at 0748. We finally arrived at downtown at 0815, such a painful 27minute ride. When we arrived, we split into the groups which we were assigned yesterday to begin our picture scavenger hunt. We finally finished this tiring hike at around 1700. Now, we are back at HQ, writing our blogs and packing up for tonight and tomorrows Niagara hike.

Today was a tiring and exciting day Mom! I finally went to the eaton center, kekeke! I didn’t shop. I just spent 12dollars on yummy teriyaki rice, haha, and three dollars on frozen yogurt. Worth it! Doris, you’d be jelly! We experienced running man haha. We had to take pictures with strangers in downtown! Such a fun experience, JUST like running man. I learned how to compremise with my group today. At first, we all had different conditions and wishes. We had a hard time getting to one place without complaining. But…. Haha! In the end, we were just like a family we compremised so well, looked after each other, and experienced a memorable day together. Tomorrow…. The challenger continues! We’ll be heading to Niagara Falls no bus transition, nor subway, nor street cars, nor maps. I’m READY! Mom, Dad, Doris, and Yaura, eat full and dress warm. I miss you! I will be back for “Triumph in the skies!” Looking forward to tomorrow! :)

It is day 6 of the camp. Yes,day 6 we are in the Downtown. We go to Porsche first. Those cars there are so beautiful!! So cool !! Then we saw the PoPo centre just opposite there. (actually PoPo centre is Police HQ). After taking the photos ,we want to grab some bicycles to ride. Poor fact is that we cannot afford for it. So we get on the subway and travel through around the city. Still most of the time we are walking. I am so tired now. Although I can still walk, I don’t even want to move even my finger. Also, thank for Jenn, I don’t have to type TODAY!!!

Tom
Fighting!!

Today is Day 6. We ate breakfast in the hotel. I slept for seven and a half hour. After eating breakfast, we got onto the car and went to downtown. Our position is the Mercedes-Benz World. We have to go to different places from the downtown. Billy gave us the name of the place, the adress, the map to our group, we have to find out the road to get to the places and took a group picture. Our group’s name is “A” for “Alpha”. Our first destination is Ryerson University. Ryerson University was separate into lots of parts but the parts are not stick together, every buildings have a long distance, so we need to walk around the whole area. Those buildings are quite old as the Harvard University. I love this University too. The second destination is Hockey Hall of fame. We saw lots of shops selling hockey masks, suit and sticks, it was quite boring. The third destination is Union Station. Union Station is one of the MTR stop. We use our group’s day pass to take the MTR. Actually we always travel at Union Station to take the MTR to different places. The fourth destination is ST. Lawrence Market. I bought a toronto magnet there. It was a kind of old shopping market. The fifth destination is CTV. CTV was a old building too. A race car was sticking out of CTV. The last destination is University of toronto. I like University of toronto more than Ryerson University. Today, I learn how to study a map, communicate and make a plan with my group, It was a good challenge, we can visit downtown. I am ready for tomorrow mission – Niagara Falls!!!

Calvin
Our Toronto hike was much better than I had expected. My groups navigational skills were adequate and they managed to also visit other sites as well. Now I know that for tomorrow Niagara Falls hike they will have no trouble navigating. I think the most interesting thing they saw was Fort York, where a parade was happening. To me, it seemed like they enjoyed the hike. As far tomorrow the hike is going to be very exciting. They don’t have a map so it’ll be much more interesting. I don’t know the way either so I won’t be able to help them much.

Xuan Zi

Shirley
Good Job!!

Alvin Au

Thanks Tiffany!

Big day in Toronto. All the students and the leaderships were separated into groups and each had a set amount of locations to visit. Not only that but they were required to have strangers in the pictures. This was to teach them communication skills and navigation in urban environments. Our group was tasked to visit the Sick Kids hospital, St. Michael’s hospital, Eaton Centre, both the current and old City Hall, and the Rogers Centre. However, by 1200, we were able to visit all locations and taken the required pictures. Thus my group decided to spend the rest of the afternoon at the Eaton Centre. Tomorrow is expected to be similar but a little more difficult at Niagara Falls.

Maggie
Today was pretty tiring, but it was pretty exciting as well. We started waking up at about 5:00, with bread for breakfast. When everyone finally arrived, it was about 6:00. Then all the drivers drove everyone out to the Mercedes Benz in downtown. Our team/group (Charlie) was finished taking the pictures at about 12:00, where we met Jen’s group at the CN tower/Rogers Centre. Then we pretty much spent the rest of the time at Eaton Centre. After that, we (Charlie group) took a seat car to the Mercedes Benz, but Alvin said we had time to kill, so he thought we should get lost. After many, many ideas for getting lost, we finally decided to get lost at park. Of course today was tiring, but Eaton Centre was pretty cool, and the places we visited were pretty beautiful.

Today was AMAZING we went all around town
-          Eaton Centre
-          Queen’s Park
-          CN Tower
-          STARBUCKS
-          Timmy’s
-          TTC (Bus, Subway, Street Car)
-          Police Centre
-          Porche Showroom
I also learned TONS of facts that I didn’t even know even though I live in Canada. Can’t wait for tomorrow for Niagra falls

Ryan Hoang
Today is the sixth day of our program. We went to downtown on this day. The students were tasked with basic navigation, communication and mainly walking. Our group went to many interesting places. I also lost a lot of money in a semi-fancy Japanese restaurant. This is because although the place looked nice the food was a lot worse then what I normally eat. Going to downtown I learned there was a really good ramen place to bad though that the students wanted burgers.

Alex
Today, we went to downtown with our group, we have went to lots of places, CN Tower, CNE, Moss Park…. I’ve got lot of fun there!!!

Ava Ho
We went to Downtown, it’s way too sunny but its fun though. Overall, it’s a tiring trip!!!

Today my friends and I went to Down Town Toronto for site-seeing. To prevent us from getting into a traffic-jam we all drove to the town quite early, on the way I saw many beautiful sites. After Calvin our drove is to the drop-off point, we started our trip-walking in the city. We went to the CN tower, the tallest building in Toronto next we went to the Fort York and Most Park Armary. There was a parad in Fort York to celebrate the veteran Day. After that we went to China Town. Then we Eathen Center to have a late lunch, I ate Japanese food. Finally I spend the next 2hours walking in the mall. Furthermore we road all the public transport n Toronto--- Bus, Street car and the sub way.
Today was a fun and exciting day. I look forward. I look forward to tomorrow’s adventure in the Niagara Falls.

Today was our hiking day in downtown Toronto. The time we had there was 10hours to finish our picture scavenger hunt which was also suppose to take our time to finish. My group finished our hunt by 1200 and they wanted to head back to Eaton Center to shop so we end up spending 3hours there. The locations we got were; The Sick Kids Hospital, St. Michael’s Hospital, Eaton Center, City Hall, Old City Hall and Roger Center. Even though we had 6locations we managed to finish them all in 3-4 hours, the only group we met with on the way was with Delta group at Roger Center when they have CN Tower. It was interesting watching my group navigate round downtown to reach our locations. In the end we have 4hours at Eaton Center and everyone got bored while waiting for the time to pass. Now as we head back Alvin wanted us to “get lost” so we end up getting lost at a park that is about 500m away from our HQ which was at the Downtown Mercedes-Benz.
I hope JJ gets well soon!

Jenn
I’m attempting to quarantine myself. I caught a cold and lost my voice today. I have a craving for Bomb Chicken, thanks Mickey. I was leading Delta Team which consisted of Chris, Kelvin, Terry, Tom, Edwin Cheung, and I. we were given 10 locations yesterday and we had a draw to determine which six locations each team would visit. My team had to take pictures with other wayfarers in downtown Toronto, and they started off pretty shy, but became bolder and more confident as the day went on. We became Team Buddy by the end and now I can say that I’ll enjoy hiking around Niagara Falls with them tomorrow.
My brother has fallen ill and I’m worried about him. It isn’t often that we get sick, so I’m afraid that we’ll both be down. No way! XP
