Bravo Group - Day 2

Note: Due to the remote location of the campgrounds we are currently in, Internet access is extremely limited. We can only upload the blogs and pictures in the morning at the Visitors’ Centre (which is pretty far away). Sorry for the inconvenience.

Aug 12, 2013 – Day 02
For those who went to the hotel for the night, they woke up this morning, had complimentary breakfast and came back to HQ. For those who stayed at HQ, they woke up early this morning, had quickly made breakfast, and started packing their luggage. Everyone gathered together for a quick lecture on packing and survival skills and equipment while Michael Fung was driven to the airport. Bye Michael! Hope to see you again real soon!
After the lecture, everyone started to pack up their luggage, getting things they need to bring for the Algonquin camp trip. Several students were lacking proper equipment and so several of us went to Sail while the rest continued to pack and started loading up the vehicles. Lunch came afterwards, then a small lecture on vehicle safety and proper care; after which we all head out towards Algonquin Park, our campground for 4 days and 3 nights.
During the car ride, practically everyone passed out and slept the entire ride. Soon we arrived at our campsite. We set up our tents. We unloaded our luggage. We cooked. And we ate dinner. It all took a while because everyone had to learn the procedures on the spot (taught by the seniors). Everything went pretty smoothly. We will be cycling everyone for different jobs, learning and honing their skills for great independence and teamwork. After dinner was done, everyone wrote their blogs, and had assigned people typed it out. We now bid a good night for tonight.

Maggie T
This is the second day of program, we go to camp, four days three nights. It seems exciting but I hate insect so much, 祝我好运。

Shirley

Alvin

Ryan Liang

Bing Jun

Max
Today is Day 2, we ate breakfast in the hotel! I slept good, I woke up at 6:20a.m. in the morning. We went to the lobby at 7:30 a.m. We pack our things into our back packs. I asked Billy to borrow a sleeping bag and air matches. I couldn’t find my pocket knife. After we finished packing our things, we went to Sail to buy wet shoes for 52canadian. We got onto the car at 1:30 p.m. and set off to alonqion park. We arrive at 7:00 p.m. Jason taught us how to set a tent and I followed his order. We build up the tent perfectly. We ate pasta for dinner. Now I have to go sleep and rest enough for tomorrow’6-10 hours hiking.

Alex
Today, our camping started, after two hours drove, we arrived our camping site, which was huge, wide and trees everywhere. We set up our tent, load out our stuff…… we were ready for the 4 days camping. I felt excited on that cause I haven’t tried that before.
Tomorrow we will start hiking, and I am looking forward to it.

Ava
Today is the second day of the programme and also first day of camping. Full of excitement and…insects. Hope I can have a good sleep tonight.

Maggie Junior
Today was the first day if camping out at Algonquin Park. We arrived at about 6:30. After registering, we came to our site and started building our tent which took 45-90 min.  (It was pretty cold) Of course after a cold and tiring time, we finally went inside the tents and got out our sleeping bags and matress.

Nicola
Today is out first day camping. Mom, It’s my first time camping outdoor! All of us our crossing our fingers so that we don’t get bitten by mosquitos. Today Billy gave us a lesson about camping items and how to pack. We went to Vaughan to “SAIL” to purchase needed camping items. Such a loooog car ride to our camp site. We finally arrived at our destination, Algonquin Park at 6:50pm. Today I learned how to set up a new tent by pro-jen. She so professional at constructing the tent and giving instructions. She is so clear. Basically, she’s good at everything :) mom, dad, Doris and Yaura, eat full and dress warm. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s hiking challenge!

Kelvin
Today was tons of fun but the ride was boring but when we got there we set up the tents the quickest and everything done neatly we added rocks to ensure that NO ram gets inside.

Terry
After such a long time in the car, we finally comes to Algonquin Park. Today I am in the cooking group. Sounds like a bit weird, right ? Hope they will love what we cook:). The journey has not started yet but I already feel that freezing weather. I LOVE THIS!!! Tomorrow we got  a long hiking , hope this will be fun:) I am looking forward to it.

Rex
Today was a fun and interesting day. As usual I woke up early to prepare myself for a day full of adventures, my friends and I road to HQ to park out things to camp. Before we park Billy taught us how to pack our bag more efficient, also I learnt a lot from him. Then we ate hot dog which as cooked by Billy and it taste extreme good. After lunch we drove around 3 hours to Algonquin. In there I learn how to build a tent and it was fun because we are the first to finish. Furthermore, the camp is very cold. Tonight Billy cooked some taste food.

Lemuel
Second day into the program and things are going really smoothly. That probably just means that it’s going to go downhill by the end. Totally just jinxed it, didn’t I? Anyway, today we pack up all our luggage as well as the equipment into the sprinters and moved out to Algonquin Park. Ride was about 3 hours so we didn’t have any troubles like 1 hr pit stops like in trans Canada. Upon arrival, we began setting up the tents. We’re using the tent shelters this time and looking at it now it’s really plausible that water going to get in. Hope it doesn’t rain…..

Calvin
The main preparation today was done by a few people in HQ. I was sent to sail to get equipment for the guys who didn’t have the proper equipment. I would have expected that the older guys should get all the equipment needed. Though they are green I think that they would have had a general idea what they need –they are practically adults. Tomorrow we will be hiking all day. Hopefully they will take Lemuel packing list seriously or things are going to go bad.

Edwin Cheung
I woke up at 6:02am in HQ. We did a clear up on the HQ and head for breakfast. Later, we drive Mick. F to the Peason Airport for his plane. We then head to Benz on Green land for some stuff. Later, we head back to HQ ready for to head out of Aqungian. We head over 1:57 am. Later , we have a washroom break in Algian vistor senter. We drive another 33KM. out destination is keamery lake campgrane. We set up our tents and write our blog ready for dinner, we will stay  in keamery lake camp site for 4 day 3 nt.

Jason

After breakfast, we began out HQ clean up and we began packing up the essential items for the Algonquin, 4day/3night, camp.  At1350, we were on the move to Algonquin. After the long and slightly boring ride, we finally arrived our destination of the Kearney lake camp side when we set up our camp for the following few days.

Edwin Chan
Today was a long day since I had to drive Michael F to the Airport at 7am. Once we reached the airport we find out his flight was delayed until 12:40. A little while later while waiting to check in are met up with micky who also was leaving today. We end up leaving a bit later due to the delayed check in process. While heading back to Markham I packed up nozzle from Morcede- Benz for the wind washer fuild. When I reached to HQ everyone was either packing the vehicle which all the luggages. Around 1:40 we all moved out  to fill up the Sprinter and then start heading to our destination. For the day we will be stay at  Algonquin Prouncial Park. That’s all for now have fun

HAHA…

Today is the second day of the Brave training program,Today we have our tent set up and will be staying of Algonqoin park for3 days and 4 night .Personally I have high hopes for this group mainly because of the fact that they are order and more mature . On the other end it might make them even harder to lead as many of them would think they are more experienced then me.
I am quite overjoyed from last year .Mostly cause I am given a much higher position but also because my parents talked to me. I hope I can learn a lot from this group but mainly I hope few hiccups occur.

Jenn Wang
I am currently hailed as Master Jenny – Master of the Tent – by the girls that are my tentmates, which is sort of awkward, but kind of… I dunno. I’m hesitant to say uplifting because I spent most of today annoyed and impatient with them. 6:45 means 6:45! Remember that, girls! (It would make my job a lot easier, no doubt…)
I was not made for girl talk in English, much less in Mandarin, and even less so in Cantonese, which I don’t understand. I’ve spent the last 27 or so hours surrounded by these girls and feeling generally really alienated and feeling shunned when I tried to speak. Choosing voluntary exile doesn’t seem to be an option, and talking to people who seem to like talking to me more feels like I’m shirking my duty and furthermore, feels like I’m being judged. So I just sit there in uncomfortable silence and make awkward conversations in broken English. Yes, broken English. However, teaching them something is a whole other kettle of fish – it makes me feel important. Same with teaching the former HQ team how to do the job arrangements that the former captains and 2ICs were doing. It makes me feel useful, but I wish for the sort of work I was doing on the TransCanada 3 years ago – heavier planning and heavier physical tasks. Overall, I guess I’ve been wishing and trying to seek out jobs that can satisfy that initiative but it’s never enough. I want and need more. I want to be worked until I’m ragged and I can say that it took a lot of effort and people can see the fruits of my effort – that’s when I can start to be more optimistic and I can say that I have any worth, because I still just don’t see it.
