Day 16 - Port Aux Basque

It’s that exciting time of the day again! It’s time to give you all an update on our expedition.

After another nice sleep at the cottage, we set out for more sightseeing in Gros Morne. We can never get enough, the scenery – the mountains are absolutely stunning. We even visited the mountains that are about 6 million years old!

We then visited the trout river boardwalk. We saw how the fishermen did their jobs and how lobsters are caught. Of course, the scenery was beautiful! We can’t stress that enough! Everywhere we visited in Newfoundland had wonderful scenery.

For lunch, we had Mary Brown’s, it’s Newfoundland’s version of KFC. The chicken was sort of similar but we preferred KFC more. While we were leaving, we experienced a light shower, a thunderstorm, hail, and then sunshine again, all in the span of 10 minutes. Imagine that!

After about an hour of driving, we stopped at Table Mountains to enjoy more sightseeing. There were no trails leading to a small pond so we made our own. It was our first Monticle Challenge for the East Expedition! Later, we found out there actually was a trail leading to the pond but the feeling we got when we walked up to the waters was not the same. It was more satisfying knowing we made the trail with our own effort and never gave up until the end.

We soon arrived in Port aux Basque and checked out the visitor’s centre. The people told us about a lighthouse and we decided to drive there. Again, the scenery by the ocean was phenomenal. We had dinner around the area and drove back down to check in for the ferry.

Another ferry?! Yeah…we’ll be sailing out at 1:30 a.m. tonight and will arrive in North Sydney tomorrow. We can’t wait. Stayed tuned for more exciting news! :)
