Day 5
Yesterday the students all voted for one student deserving of a promotion. They voted. This morning we would like to welcome a new student as a Junior Leadership! Congratulations Bridget!
We all woke up early today for breakfast and then left by cars for a day of Treetop Trekking. First half of the day was teambuilding, in this activity we are separated into groups and work together to build a shelter. Scenarios were given and we had to act according to the scenarios.  After which we had a half hour lunch break before the actual treetop trekking. The instructors there taught us the basics and safety of trekking and then off we went. Everyone had a lot of fun with the zip-lining and the obstacle courses. Many students were able to concur their fears by rising up to the challenges.  When all is done, we had an hour of free time, of which many of us went and played around the area before leaving by cars again back to camp. Today was a fun-filled, leadership building day.

Today was a realy realy fun day because we went ziplineing! At first I was scared of hights but now I’m not. We went on tall trees and mountains and ziplined down. But the fun part is when we ziplined down 1km!

Rita
Today we went treetop trekking. It was fun, but some courses were challenging. There was one part where I had to rely on my arms in order not to fall, and it was hard. The best part was ziplining, because it feels awesome to go really fast, and feeling the wind in my face.

Maggie
Today I don’t know when I woke up. I just remember waking up and hearing Tiffany say “OMG! We woke up late!” After getting ready in a hurry, we ate breakfast and got on the trucks. We drove to Horseshoe Resort, where we went Treetop Trekking. Then, after all the climbing and holding on to a wire, I went to THE BIG ZIP! After the BIG ZIP, we had some free time and we went on this ski lift thing and zipped all the way down. Then we came back and did the laundry.

Coming to Monticle means coming to a new culture, in my opinion. But today really changed my mind. Last year when I came there was no gender barriers, no discrimination but most of all, there was more respect. Becoming a senior leadership meant a lot to me but I wasn’t absolutely certain about the responsibility I’ve taken in. I’ve noticed many rumours spreading, more backstabbing, but dissapointingly, I wasn’t able to control. Well, I think I’ve found my challenge just like Billy said “If you want something you never had, you have to do something you’ve never done”. I have high expectations on myself, as theres still much more ahead of me. Besides all that I had a lot of fun, climbing trees, helping others (especially Pompey as he was older and much more scared than me) zip lining 1km across, and loads more. Over the many obstacle courses, real friends and caring was unleashed and it was extremely impressive how one small person could make you feel so much pride being a part of monticle.

Treetop trekking was a scary experience for me, as I am scared of heights. There were different colored courses, but all was hard to me. Apparently one course had a lot of obstacles and it takes 1 hour to finish it. I kept holding up the people behind me. I just wanted to climb down the tree or something. The worst part was when I was stuck in the middle of a swinging obstacle that was going up. I found out that was because a grandma and grandpa was waiting to be rescued, as they thought they couldn’t continue on. My arms were really tired from gripping the ropes. I didn’t do the “Big Zip”, as I thought I had done enough for the day. Today was a good day to persevere.

Chin Ho
Today was a very fun day, playing the Zipline and the tree trek, challenging all the different Levels in the forest, scary and exciting. I didn’t get a chance to play the big zip. “Why?” Because I walked to slow, and there were few indians in front busy taking selfies and vids. (sigh)

Nicola Huang
Tree top was a very fascinating place to explore. I enjoyed every second of the adventure. I learned how to collaborate with my team to build a non-planified shelter in the wilderness today. My legs are so soar from all the running I did today. Tomorrow is hiking. I’m kind of excited in a way!

Ingrid Zhou
Tomorrow we will go hiking. It must be very interesting. Yesterday, Bill told me a story about himself. And now I can understand the things that confused me for a long time because of this story. When I return to the China, I will tell you this story. And I know that tomorrow I will get the mark of final exam. But I didn’t feel nervous. Whatever! Because I knew I will try my best to study in the future wherever I study, I can be a good student. To be honest, I still feel a little sad about it. But you don’t need to worry about me!

Meagan
We went tree top trekking, it was about 30-40 minutes car drive to the resort. (Where the zip lines and stuff are), Then we got droped off, after, we had team building. My group is group 4, my teammates are Kelvin, Maggie, Julian, Pompey, Kevin, and nesther. Nicola thinks that peggys group is the best and we are second best. After team building was lunch cup noodles, then we started tree top trekking IT WAS THE MOST FUN EXPIRIENCE I EVER HAD!!!! But the bad thing is that I could not go to purple or black! But I went on big ZIP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then we had free time and back to Muskey Landing. TODAY WAS AWESOME!!!!!!! Wish tomorrow is even better!!!!!!

Bridget Zhao
Today was yet an another amazing, memorable day. We did Treetop Trekking, we did Treetop activities and ziplining. I did treetop activities in the past, but not ziplining. There were many levels or stages for each treetop activity and ziplining. Even though I had blisters, it was an amazing day. We also had freetime towards the end and Naomi, Tiff, Maggie,Samson,Lemuel, Tess and I did the 1km zipline. It was awesome!

Samson Lee
Today, I went on an outing to Treetop Trekking in Barrie. It took 35 minutes from Muskey’s Landing Cottage Resort to Treetop Trekking in Barrie by Highway 400, 93 and Horshoe Valley Road. I went on the yellow, blue, mauve, black and big zip level exhibit. Whenever I spend time on the Treetop, I didn’t feel scared because I always look and hold more hands. My most toughest part in Treetop were the bridges and one rope because it still needs to improve more and more skills in the future. Whenever I went on and rope slide, I hold my rope with two hands. Next, I went on a purple rope exhibit but also I already made it to the end of the trek. Finally, I approached to the glider slide. Whenever I rode on the glider slide I wasn’t scared and felt really safe but I made it to the end safely. In the future, I will be doing the Treetop Trekking again in all levels. I had a big exciting day!!!

Kevin
Woke up with the same time as day 4. Treetop was our next stop. There are different challenges at the Treetop, theres team-building, zip-line and colour challenge. Different colours with different levels of difficulty, I finished red, green, and blue. I didn’t have enough time to try purple, black and the big-zip. Although, I didn’t finish the challenges, it was still a great experience.

Kelvin P.
Today we ate oatmeal and then quickly when onto the sprinters for bout 1.5 hour drive we arrive to the Treetop VERY SCARY to the point were I wanted to climb down or just jump off!!!

Siena
Today was the best day ever! We did so many things, but today was my favourite because we did one of the things I’ve been dreaming to do forever. That’s zip linning, I had so much fun doing it. First we started with a tour from the guide in my mind I was like hurry up already. When we went on the first obstical I was sooooo scared. But the second and third obstical was a breeze. When get on higher levels it got harder and harder. After all the obsticals we had 50 minutes of free time and we can do anything but of the activities you had to pay for. But me and couple of friends went in this maze that went on forever! Then finally got and then started doing gymnastics and then everyone started joining and starting to say wow your so good! That’s my amazing day at horseshoe resort.

Eric Lo
Today was very fun playing treetop. There are many kind of zip (blade, purple, red…) I like to play the zip and I am pro. if today’s lunch is not cup noodles, it will be great. In conclusion, today was fun.

Sabrina Mak
Today was one of my favorite days through this camp. This morning, we woke up really early, around six-thirty, because we were going to Horseshoe Resort for tree-top trekking. Even though tree-top trekking was extremely exhausting, but it made me gain more confidence in myself, and also made me more interested into doing extreme activities. The hardest high top trekking were the yellow and purple course, because it involves a lot of uneasy steps to reach to the end. But my favorite course was the zip-lining. At the end, my friend and I went to ride the longest zip-lining in the resort, and it was the best part of the day. Even though this blog is quite short, but I have so many things to write about that I could finish in my journal. Anyways, tomorrow I have a lot of things to write about, see you soon!

Elvin
When the name “treetop”  was mentioned, I would picture a grand tree with kids trying to reach the very summit. But after today’s experience, I have truly learn’t that tree top is actually swinging from trees to trees with with ziplines in a certain exciting speed. Before my first ride I hesitated for a while, but then I saw approximately 4 people on the platform waiting for me to go, so I decided not to stall their precious time and go. I have to admit, it takes more than the mass like myself to overcome fear, but it is overcoming one problem at a time, one step at a time.

Edwin Cheung
Today, it is a all-right day. We stand in Muskey Land Resource, to which we wash dish and stuff for the. Later, we went to Horse-Shoes Adventure park to go trekking tree-top activites. 8 course in the all together, I learn to overcome fear and to have more guts, in rode. it is pretty scare but I did it. I yellow, red, green, blue and big zip. I did most of them. I was sweating crazy and heart pumping.

Sabrina Tan
So I actually didn’t need to wake up at 5:00am. So I just went back to my room and slept for half an hour. Today we went reegoing and I learned that I do not like the wilderness, and caterpillars are disgusting. Ziplining is fun.

Imaan Hirji
The days at this camp keep getting better and better! Today we went Treetop treaking. We started the day with breakfast followed by a 40 minute bus ride. When we arrived we had a teambuilding activity. Our goal was to build a shelter to keep you safe from the elements using only the materials given to us in a box. We also had to find a creek, gather water from it, and purify it. Finally, we had to make a list of things we would need to survive in the wilderness. After our teambuilding activity we had lunch. After lunch we went treetop treaking. We climbed up a ladder into the trees were we completed the obstical course. There were monkey bars, tight ropes, zip lines, and much more. I went on the green, blue and purple (levels in order of difficulty) It was so fun. After the obstacle course we went on a zipline called Big Zip. It was kind of scary but really fun as well. Tomorrow, we’re going hiking. I am so excited.

Pompey Leung
Today we woke up early again because we have to go to the tree top. At the begin I am so afraid of height. First, we do the teambuilding, we build shelter with wood, sticks, and some rock. I never build shelter like this before. And I feel so suceceful. After that we playt the tree top. I am so scare, then everyone push me so finally I fight my greatness!

Fred
Today we did zip-lining. It is very fun. We had to wear the harness and my pants nearly fell off. And I have to hand on the line. Overall, today is very fun.

Julian Ma
I can’t keep it up anymore, it takes too much energy to write neatly and with more detail, so yeah. Today in the morning we had oatmeal but I think it is overcooked oatmeal, it’s thick and sweet. After we went to “HorseShoe” resort, we first did a task, it is to make a shelter within 2 hour, we probably won because the others suck, ok after we did the most challenging thing of all, treetop trekking, I finished 3 course including red, very challenging, one part, I saved Chin Ho’s life because he can’t make the ropeswing, EZ! Very challenging I sort of soloed a course, Kevin, Eric, Fred, Chin Ho come after 30 minute. Yeah really enjoyed the day.

Mireille
Today after breakfast I clean up. Then I went to tree top. It was very fun but I was scared too. It was my first time to go on tree top. I go home first because we don’t have enough places in the car. And I help to prepare dinner. We ate spaghetti.

Tess Chau
Today we woke up at the same time as yesterday, 6:30. We had a quick breakfast of oatmeal, crackers, and boiled eggs. We quickly hopped on the cars and set off for Horseshoe Resort, where we would be doing zip-line and obstacle courses. We went got there we did team-building activites for 2 hours, then we ate Cup Noodles and we set straight off for 3 hours of zipline obstacle courses. After that 9 people got to do the 1 kilometer long zipline including me! It was an awesome experience, and totally worth the money! After that we did gymnastics on the grass, then we started up the engine and headed back “home”. We just finished a yummy dinner of spaghetti bolognase! Though I don’t really look forward to hiking tomorrow…

Nathan
Day 4, we went to Moontian top.

Ethan Zhao
The One Handed Bandit
Note: “I shall write in more detail with better hand writing…” Julian Ma
Do not underestimate yourself no matter what. Today, we all went treetop trekking in Horseshoe Valley. At first I thought “SHOOT!” because I am handicapped (see first entry) “sob” but Billy was TOO KIND to walk up and down the hotel/resort talking to managers and activity leaders to see if they would let me attend in the activities. MANY MANY THANKS TO BILLY for that! First we did a 2 hour teambuilding activity, we had to build a shelter in the forest as if we were in a survival situation. By the way… Sabrina (old one) and Nicola are REALLY REALLY SCARED of bugs, even the ants! HAHAHHahahaha…
Well enough of that now, here comes the sugar! When I first got onto the first treetop course, I thought it was going to be VERY hard; well guess what, I was wrong. I conquered the tough courses such as Purple and Red with one hand! All the instructors in the treetop trekking course call me…. the One Handed Bandit. BOOM PEOPLE!

Naomi Golin
Today we went to a ropes course, as well as going on a 1km zipline. The day started off with us doing team building. The task was for us to build a shelter and purify water in two hours. As the day progressed we went across a rope and on wheelbarrows. By the time it was the afternoon most of us completed at least two courses and a couple of short ziplines. There was an hour left in our day., Most of us were getting restless and wanted to do something more. So we decided to go on a 1km long zipline. It was really fun but a lot slower and shorter then you would expect. Out of all the days so far, this one was definitealy the best.

Lemuel
Woke up at the same time as yesterday and had breakfast. After, we moved out to horseshoe valley. We started out separating teams and building shelters from twigs and branches and purifying water. Later we moved on the treetop climbing and ziplining for the rest of the day. Tomorrow, hiking is scheduled although I do not know where we’re hiking at.

Today was a very tiring day, like yesterday, we woke up earlier than normal days. This morning, we woke up at 6:30AM but we didn’t do physical training, instead, we ate breakfast which was oatmeal and then an instructor or a leadership drove us to the place where we do treetop trekking and other activities. When we arrived to the activity we filled in a form, we got our bracelets that signify which courses we could try and then we did teambuilding for 2 hours. After then we wore our equipements that allowed us to go treetop trekking. After everyone wore their equipments, there was an instructor that showed us most of the basics and then we all did a beginner course. Later when everyone finished the beginner course, everyone did different courses like the yellow course, blue course and more, after, we ate lunch and then we had free time. After we finished treetop trekking, we had another free time where I did gymnastics with my friends and we also went in a maze. When freetime was over, we went back to the cabins, we did the laundry and then we ate supper.

  1. Ingrid sweety,
How was the hiking going? I'm looking forward to hearing the story of Bill after you return home. About the mark of your exam, no matter what it is, that's not important, because you have tried your best and will be a very good student wherever you go. I think the meaning of study is not an exam mark, but is learning new things and becoming a happy person. I don't worry about you, I'm always proud of you. I don't like Beijing weather here. I miss miss our cats, and miss you.
