Day 15 – Edmonton, Alberta

Day 15 – Edmonton, Alberta

Today was our recovery day. Recovery from the intense hike up Mount Edith yesterday, that is.

We woke up at around 0730 as usual, but we took things very easy today. Everyone’s still a bit sore, but overall, we’re still fairly okay.

Oh and to add on to yesterday’s post. (I forgot at the moment because of a major brain fart…) We met a Cantonese family up on the trail, and they decided that they wanted to travel with us because they had also heard about the grizzly bear up on the mountain. So they hiked with us for a bit. Billy also used his pro paramedical skills to help this lady with an epic mosquito bite. The bite was swelling up to disproportionate sizes, and apparently she was in pain as well. It was pretty much worse than all of our mosquito bites put together.

End of yesterday’s brain fart make-up.

So…today…Today we ate the breakfast provided by the hotel. They even had a waffle machine! Then were on our way to Edmonton, Alberta. It’s pretty close to Hinton, Alberta, actually; just 3 hours away.

We stopped at a hotel first, to unload our bags, and have lunch. We ate sandwiches, leftover chips, and some fruit. We moved everything up to one room, because there wasn’t enough space (there’s like two weddings taking place here).

Guess what next? Edmonton’s biggest attraction and the biggest one of its kind in the world…the West Edmonton Mall!

Step out of the way! Professional shoppers here! We each bought so many items there, as it was so cheap (however many percent less tax here in Alberta).

We spent close to 6 hours in total inside the mall, and we weren’t able to walk through the entire thing! I mean, it’s big enough to contain at least 2 of each store, a water park (with killer slides that we will be going on tomorrow! BWAHAHA!), an amusement park, a water tank for a sea lion show, an ice rink, and at least 2 hotels that we saw. The mall is a monster. There was a CHINATOWN in the mall. And in that Chinatown…there was a T&T!

All of the stores in the all were larger than any other of the same brands that are seen anywhere else.

We stayed almost ‘til the mall’s closing time of 9 p.m. There was just that much to see! And we still weren’t able to get through it all! (I bet that it’s physically impossible to visit, and actually browse through, every store in the entire mall!)

We had dinner at a Chinese restaurant, and we were joined by Vingi’s friend and his wife. (More Mandarin speakers! Yay! :D)

The meal was SOOOO good! But that’s what you can expect from Asians! ;D

Remember where we unloaded all of our belongings? Yup, in one room. Billy’s evil scheme…they got a junior suite at a lower rate because they had to wait for an opening when someone checked out. We’re so lucky aren’t we? But it’s a smoking room…so…ick. The smell. Oh well, we can’t ask for too much. :D)

As mentioned before, we’re still recovering, so we’re still slightly really exhausted (contradictions, contradictions…) Goodnight!

We’re swimming tomorrow, and going on insane slides at the water park! Whoooo! Stay tuned to see us having fun in the (artificial) sun! xD
