Day 7
This morning started off with a punishment.
The reason being: yesterday night many students were still awake after the
‘lights out’ appointed time, and this morning many were late in getting ready
for PT. The punishment was extra push-ups and running. After which we welcome
Tammy and Shirley our instructors for the day. They each are teaching Social
Intelligence and Management respectively. It was a very informative lecture. We
had debates and presentations. A lot was learned. However, during the lessons,
one of our leaderships got drawing on her hand. As punishment, she was demoted
from an orange shirt (senior leadership) to a yellow shirt (junior leadership).
It was a lesson learnt. When the two lessons are finished, everyone got into
their wetsuits and had a teambuilding activity which involves kayaks and ropes.
Everyone really worked well together, had fun, and learned that communication
is the key to teamwork.
Naomi Golin
Today we learned social intelligence and
finance management. We also did team building in the lake with a kayak. I
learned that there are three types of learned that there are three types of
learners: Visual, auditory, kinesthetic. A visual learner learns by seeing an
example; An auditory learner learns just by listening. Their eyes may be
looking in a different direction but they are paying very close attention to
you; A kinesthetic learner learns by doing, which means a hands on experience.
When doing finance management, you got to first think about what you would
loose and not what you gain. The reason is if you pay by credit card, you might
loose quite a lot of money. During the team building experience, I learned that
communication and support is the key, because without it, this amazing Monticle
experience will be over forever.

Another tiring day has happened. First of
all, we came out of our cabins in the morning that every one had to do a
jogging or running PT. We also had a social intelligence lesson or lecture from
Tammi and a Finance Management lesson from Lemeul’s mom. After that, we had a
kayak water drill and I got splashed from Billy and other people. Other than
the horrible, tiring PT, it was a good day.
Tess Chau
Today was quite a dry day. (NOT in terms of
weather) We did lectures on Budget Management and Social Intelligence. Luckily
after the Budget Management lecture, Billy announced (YES!!!!) that we were
going to do some team building activities in the water, and for the first time,
we used the kayaks! But THE most amazing thing, is that both teams tied 1-1 and
that the winning team would always help the losing team finish the race! Billy
was so proud he cooked chicken wings for us for dinner and said “ Now THAT’S
what I call teamwork!” <3 span="">3>
Lemuel
7 days into the camp although not much
attitude change on the students. PT was particularly harder since everyone went
to bed later and got ready later. Tammy and my mother came last night and
taught today. Tammy taught social intelligience and my mother did budget and
risk management. Afterwards, we went into the water for some teamwork training.
Alpha and Charlie was one team while Bravo and Delta was the other. We managed
to tie with each team winning once. Going to move on the water activities for
the next few days and waiting for the arrival of another instructor.
Julian Ma
Today’s morning was boring, BUT very
educational, we learnt about social intelligence taught by Tammy and budget
management taught by Sherly which is Lemuel’s mom. The breakfast was fifty
fifty’s curry soup was a thumbs down and hot cocoa was a thumbs up, In the
afternoon we had a OP mean, surf clam, shrimp, corn and bacon bits. I also
learnt Sabrina is 22 who she said so, after Lemuel’s mom taught us budget
management, but Billy taught us most. The best part of the day is getting in
the late, we did a challenge, we grouped up and did a race, kayaking with hand
in pairs, I can say me and Eric are the fastest paddler. So, I guess we’re
having curry wing.
Nathan
Today was awesome, and wet. We talked for
the morning and the afternoon. Then the fun part starts. We went to play on
water!
Chin Ho
Today was a really DRY DAY, 24 hours of
Buisness classes and Social intelligence was not so fun. But the 2nd
half of the day got me so WET, we went to the lake and did team building. One
thing I learned, never point at people. (I got in trouble.)
Tiffany Ng
Dissapointment, regret. Yes, I got demoted
to yellow for drawing on my hand. And yes, I feel terrible, I feel the shame.
Change is expected and most definitely will be put in action. Today was mainly
lectures about social intelligence and bank/personal finance management, then
we did a team building challenge where a team of 14 was to paddle across Docks
to transfer all students without a paddle. That’s it for now! I hope I get my
orange shirt back! IN&OUT!
Ethan Zhao
WAKE UP! Yes, we woke up late. L I am also going to write in more detail... yes Sabrina, more
detail….. HAHAHhahahaha…… We were late for PT so we had extended PT, AKA….. THE
JOG! Nah, it was only less than 1km. And then we had breakfast, I had waffles,
well cooked and spreaded with syrup; I also drank 2 FULL bowls of chicken
noodle soup. Later in the morning we had room
inspection again. Alpha was first…. J L - So so la! We cleaned the fridge, tv, and eachother……. And once
again we came out on top. Boom!!!!! OKOK now. Then we took a social
intelligence class with Tammy; it was like an eye-opener to me about
leadership. VAK – Visual, Auditory, Kinaesthetic. We need to understand whether
each person in the team is a visual, auditory or kinaesthetic person; that way,
you the leader will work more efficiently as a team. Nicola is pissed off at me
because she couldn’t sign my cast first… WHAT!? And again as we moved into the
tents during the rain Sabrina old and Nicola froze still because of bugs during
lessons. TERRIBLE! And then I think there is more to Edwin J and Sabrina old
than usual… LOVE? Sorry sorry sorry I said that ! I saw that! No bullying! 3
breaths ……. And then Lemuels mother was very kind to teach us about finance and
money managment. And finally I cooked CHICKEN! For dinner. And yes I was oh so
very hungry. oh oh ooooooooooooooooooooh!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can go for a dip
tomorrow! YAY! Bye.
By THE F--- Way.-
is Sabrina Tam
16 or 22?
Next time on EZs blog….
I also learnt a new word: Itchby
Kaysha Lam
Lectures were given on finance management
and social intelligence for most of the day. After that we played with the
kayaks in the water. We split the people into two groups. We had to get
everyone across to the other side, maximum two people in the kayak. The boats
capsized many times. 1st time the other team won; second time our team won. I
think dinner is going to be really good.
Rita
Today, we learned about social
Intelligence, Impressions and Finance management. The lectures were a bit
boring, but I learned a lot from it. Then, we did a kyak drill, where we had to
go into pairs and go into the kyak and paddle with our hands, there were two
rounds. We lost the first round, but won the next. YAY!
Maggie
Today I woke up at about 6:40. We got ready
then went down to breakfast. After breakfast we got lectures about social
intelligence and about VAK. Then we had lunch and more lectures about Finance
Management. After lectures and writing notes, we got in our wetsuits and got in
the water and did some water activities. Then we took showers and hung up our
wetsuits.
Edwin Cheung
Today we went to stay and learn social
intellenge and financial. I build a lot of kayaks for tomorrow activities on
water. Can’t wait for tran-canada! Elvin help me a lot. He drink all my
chocolate milk and nikkola is scare of bugs. And also Sabrina like to go to
shopping so bad!!!!
Nicola Huang
Today at Monticle, I learned social
intelligence, finance and effective communication as a group with my collegues.
We learned how to give a good impression to others, manage our amount of money
earned or given properly and with profit. This was very exciting other than all
the mosquitos in those tents. I’m looking forward to more water kayak trainings
in the next few days.
Kevin
Today was an interesting day, we had a
“social Intelligence”, “finance” and kayaking today. Exciting. Best of all was
our dinner, curry fried chicken, usually I don’t eat curry but Billy’s curry
was AWESOME! ANyways, I injured myself on the leg by panicing because I failed
to get onto the boat, I kicked the top of the kayak from that moment blood was
flying out of my leg, like a blood fountain. The epic thing was that my friend
Kelvin Pan was also kayaking and he got the same injury on the same lag, same
spot, same way but different timing. Coincident.
Kelvin P
Today I had tons of fun we when onto the
water with my wetsuit and for dinner billy said he’s cooking chicken wings with
curry, delicious. The even better of the day was that me and kevin wong started
bleading it was small but the cut was on the same leg (left) same reason and
same sport, weird I know. Today at kayaking, I think in my group; Alvin, Nicole
did the best.
Samson Lee
Today, I have learned about the 5
dissearatable senses are hearing, sight, smell, touch and taste. Those personal
skills that I have taught were visual, auditory, kinaesthetic means to touch,
easier for them to read from the blackboard and certain way to talk to them.
Next, I have learned about the finance Management of how to send money on
personal items such as glasses, papers, foods, water bottles and much more. Did
you know that playing at Casinos are not good because you will waste a lot of
money easily and get bankrupt. In the afternoon, I got on the boat and went
swimming outdoors on the lake for more than an hour. I rode on the small boat
by using with their moving hands. No wonder that I swam just 2 laps today. I
had a huge happy day!!!
Meagan
Today in the morning and half of the
afternoon was about Social Intellegence and finance. The rest of the afternoon
is WATERSAFETY!!!!! SO FUN!!!!!! Bye Bye!!!!
Ingrid Zhou
I got my mark today 713 is enough for you.
And I got 145 (150) in Maths. How sad! And we will do 5th on water
for 4 days
Sabrina Mak
Today, I had a very rough but fun day. We
woke up at 6:30am and did PT. But then some people were late, and we had to
job, for one kilometer. But really, I was running extremely hard, and at the
end, when we had breakfast, I felt dizzy and tired. After PT, we had a very
interesting class about social intelligence. Even though it was quite
complicated, but still, I have learnt about different types of learners. At
around 2:50pm, we finally got to get in the lake for a challenge. The challenge
was two teams, then two people in a canoe have to paddle across the other dock.
First, my team, which includes Charlie (my group) and Alpha, won the first
round, but we lost the second round. At the end, both teams have a tie, of one
lost and one win.
Mireille
This morning we ran during physical
training. Then we have social intelligence class it was a very interesting and
we play game with Tammy Co. As if it was raining. It was very good! In
afternoon we have personal finance class and after we play a game AC group vs
BD group. We come once and lost once. Today the game remind me that
communication in a group is very important.
Pompey Leung
So tired today!! I train them so hard
because some of them get out so late for the PT, some of them after the PT they
puk, I feel so sorry about that L
After the PT we have breakfast, that is
very great, then we have a social intelligence it is a good lesson to learn
more about AFK and some communication skills, it really help me out for the
future. Then my group did a good job in their presentation. After lunch we have
a financial management. However this is a little bit dry on it, but it have so
much fun. Then we play team game on the water. We have so much fun today!
Imaan Hirji
Today wasn’t a very hard day but there were
hard parts. This morning we had an extended PT were as well as stretching we
had a social Intelligence class that was actually really fun. we played Taboo
and we had a debate. Even though we lost the debate it was still super fun and
we learned a lot about teamwork. After that we had lunch. Then we had a finance
management class. It was kind of boring but I still learned a lot. Finally the
fun began. We got into the lake and we had a team challenge. Our job was to row
a kayak (without a paddle) with two people in it from dock to dock. The only
catch was we only had a pump a safety rope and a kayak. It was a lot harder
than any of us throughout. After the first round (which we won) we tried in the
army way of doing it. It didn’t really work in our group but it was still fun
to try. After the kayak challenge, we had dinner and then freetime. Starting
from tomorrow we’re going to be in the lake for 4 days straight. It’s going to
be very tiring but a lot of fun.
Fred
Today is very very very very very fun. We
got to do games on water and got very wet.
Eric Lo
Today was a bit boring, learning Finence
and social intellegentes. But the mini games and the kayaking without paddles
was fun. Pompey was so good at stearing the kiyaks by only using a string.
Although I don’t like to play water activities, but I overcame this challenge
by forcing ,myself to not afraid of messy.
Nestor
Today I had so much fun in the kayaks. We
keep on capsizeing because we leaned on one side of the kayak. But the bad part
is that we use our hands.
Nina Tan
Today, I woke up at 6:35AM. My group
cleaned the cabin and then at 7:15 AM we did physical training since a couple
of people were late we had to do 30 pushups and around a 10 minute run. After
physical training, we ate breakfast and then we had a room inspection. Later
on, we learned about sociable intelligence, there were sometimes when it
started to rain so we went in to the big tents, we also had a debate. It was
very fun and interesting! IN the afternoon, we ate lunch and then we learned
about financial management. That was also interesting. later, Billy told us we
were going to do a team challenge in the beach. That was super fun! Then, we
ate supper.
Elvin
Sooner or later we all have to deal with
our parents hard earned money, how to use it is up to us, that is why we were
taught finance management today by our guests Tammy and Shirely. The
information we were given on the topic was really detailed, it gave me a
general understanding on how to manage my own resources, such as risk
management. The visiting instructors also taught us basic approaches when
greeting people in interviews or other formal meetings, such as hand shake
gestures and language usage etc. Then the fun part arrived after the afternoon
session, we were told to get changed into wetsuits and we completed a team
based kayak challenge. The game was fun and both teams had the same score in
the end. Today was a good day but I am looking forward to the following days
which includes water activities.
Sabrina Tan
Only one week left! I wish I could
understand Cantonese because people keep speaking it. I am too lazy to learn
though so Father, do not force me to learn it because I already have enough on
my plate with French. When I get back home I am probably going to stay inside
and relish in the beauty of my air conditioning and lack of bugs for AT LEAST 3
months. I am telling you this because I can’t think of anything significant
that happened today. Bye!
Siena Difelice
Today was social intelligence class it was
very fun today because tammy was the teacher We did so much activites and
learned so much also. We did activites like a debate, taboo, and that’s it
about after we had class about finance management. Our afternoon was so much fun
we did a kayak race and that was my great day
Good job everyone! It was a pleasure teaching you. Keep up the great work and hope to see you all soon!
