Day 16; day of rest. True to its exalted
name, we rested a lot today. After eating sandwiches for breakfast, we got
straight to work cleaning some of the equipment. Some of the kayaks had to be
unloaded and while we washed the throw bags, we practiced the proper throwing
technique of them which we may have to apply when we cross Lake Ontario
tomorrow night. The risk of capsizing and the need of a rescue using the throw
bag is very real, so we must be sure to have the technique down pat. We spent
our day watching “G.I. Jane”— a quotable quote being: “I have never seen a wild
thing feel sorry for itself.” These wild students will definitely be able to
apply this to their crossing of Lake Ontario, and find the will to keep going.
We had a delicious lunch of noodles. Edwin
was put in charge of the cleanup after our meal, because his leadership skills
were being put to the test, and while the rest of the seniors simply stood
aside to observe him. The cleanup had its ups and downs, but it was finished on
time. Then, we watched a second movie called “Black Hawk Down.” After the films,
Billy went over the formations and some preparations for the crossing of Lake
Ontario tomorrow. We will be sleeping for the entire day tomorrow to get our
energy levels up because we’ll be starting the crossing at 1 a.m. late tomorrow
night. Wish us luck!
Good luck everyone. Can't wait to see you all on the Cherry beach. Have a nice and safe trip. Enjoy the unique experience paddling on the lake Ontario during the midnight.
ReplyDeleteHey Calvin,
ReplyDeleteHave been worried about you since Day 12 when you said you needed to visit Doctor, and a day earlier you said something bad happened to you. Hope everything is okay now.
