Hi, I’m back guys! Anyways, since you probably can’t tell
who writes the blogs yet, unless you read the special edition a few weeks ago….
Moving on, today was a day filled with new activities,
challenges, and experiences. We launched the 7 kayaks today, some of them were
double kayaks, some were single. We split into two groups, one went with Billy
to do the man overboard drill, and one went with Raymond for a kayaking trip. The
man overboard drill is an activity in which people link arms in the water, and
kick in a single line, so that they stay together, and can travel long
distances. This drill, as its name hints at, is to prepare the students for the
possibility of being stranded in a large body of water. The teamwork required
for this drill is tremendous, but we all succeeded, and we all made it to
respective destinations.
Anyways, we switched
places, and a new group of students started the man overboard drill, while the
other group replaced them on the kayaks. After the day’s activities, we were
all exhausted, but we still did a major clean-up of the kayaks and the safety
boat, in addition to all the equipment we used.
The senior students are preparing a dinner of mashed
potatoes, spaghetti, carrots, celery, potatoes, and cream of mushroom soup. This
should be interesting…..

Today was a good day. We started the day with a breakfast of
rice noodles and sauseges. We then set out to the lake and did either kayaking
or man overboard. I did kayaking first. It got really tiring but I was surprised
to be dry and not fall off. We then did a man overboard drill. That got me
tired a and wet. Finally we cleaned up and the instructers said leadership is
cooking.

Today we launched the kayaks and the zodiac safety boat,
since there are no Marinas inside the park we had to launch the boat from
Darlington port. I didn’t really learn anything new today besides learned how
to drive a boat around. Apparently when you navigate using bearings you move
the wheel the opposite direction compared to the compass.

Today was an entire day of water activities, we started with
a large breakfast because we needed to skip lunch a bit to avoid the thunder
storm. I was in the kayak team so I needed to paddle hard to steer the seaward
kayak properly, the kayak fits 2 people. I was the only one that did work
between the two people to drive the boat straight. After we finished I think I
was more of a guide then a leader and found out I got a very bad tan. We then
washed the boat and kayaks and now awaiting for dinner.

We had noodles, sauges, corn for breakfast. After breakfast
we prepared for kayaking and man overboard drill (boat). Most of them went
kayaking while me, Alan, Quince, Jonathan did the man overboard drill. We did
terrible. Then we switched and kayaked back to the beach. We had cracker and
granola bar for lunch, since we didn’t have time to cook. After lunch we
cleaned up everything.
Alan
This morning we had noodle, corn, and sausages for
breakfast. After breakfast we wend to the beach to do a man overboard drill. We
had to wear helmet and a life jacket. It was very tireing after we went
kaicting. Then we cleaned up and went back to the camp.

Today is July 24, 2012. It is not so good day. This moring
we ate noodle with core with sauaguese. When then pack up our kayaka. Me and
Billy and Jeason pack up early and ready for kayaking. Me and Jeason Wang ready
for our work. Billy tell me to bring his wetsuits. Afterwar. We went out to the
water. Billy said “where is my wetsuit!!!” I said I forgot to took it. Billy
was very angry. Later the afternoon I felt sad an no moot. Afterward wene back
to the our campsite. And Billy ask me to delivered two bags of ice and ice tea.
Today, I learn that “don’t be too forgetfully. Be a man face your mistake. Don’t
be so stupid. Grown up and take responsibility and be Mature Because I am turning
18.

The crow is laughing at the students who can’t cook, attempt
cooking while the instructors lounged on their chairs chatting away eating
chips and drinking nestea. Edwin and Jen struggled with the carrots, celery and
meat. Calvin dropped the spaghetti he was supposed to cook. Alastair picked off
all the grass. Jacky ended up doing the cooking instead. In the end Grace saved
the day (dinner). Being unable to cook myself, I just sit near them enjoying
the hilarious view and writing this blog. Actually… now that I think about it,
I hope we don’t get food poisoning or something…. And let us go back to today’s
events. Most of the day’s spent on water. We’re split into 2 groups. The first
group kayaked while the second group performed man overboard. We switched after
reaching our destination. Grace and I were partnered together. We’re both never
kayaked before so it was a surprise how well we did. It was a bit tiring though
but definitely fun. The man overboard was fun-ish. We managed to swim 1km
towards the shore. Our lifeguard had too much fun with his flippers. It was a bit
funny seeing the usual serious looking face turned back into a kid. We worked
really well together as a group while doing man overboard. The encouragements
everyone game everyone was… well, encouraging. Good job cooking everyone! Let us
hope we don’t get sick ~

Today is the funnest day in camp. It starts in the morning,
which we have rice noodles, corn and sausages. After that Billy called some
people to unload the kayaks. We walk to the beach, and talk about water safety.
When the second group, which has eight people, will do the man overboard. The kayaks
group, gone away first. It takes like ten to twenty minutes till Billy’s
superfast boat to come because the place where they launch the boat in a very
far place. So it is very big. When we get on the water, it is awfully cold. But
we still did the man overboard. In the middle of the lake. The water is more
cold than ever. It is awfully extremely cold water, but at least I get into the
water. After man overboard drill, we kayak back to the beach, but Billy call to
go with him to take a ride. So I did. That is when the fun begins. I get to
drive the boat! It is done and difficult. We have three people, Billy Jason and
me. We take turns doing driving. Me first, than Jason, than Billy. Billy told
us don’t give up when you have a goal to achieve. Whn we get there, the water
is like poo hole with water. There are poo floating on top of the water, and it
is very dirt. We use the car to tow it back to the campsite and do a very clean
wash. It takes like thirty-fourty minites to do the cleaning. Now, Alastair is
typing our blogs out. Today’s blog is extremely long because of something to
achieve a goal. So Bye!
Jonathan
Today, we were in the water for the whole day again. We wore
our bathing suits and wetsuits as our clothing. The things that we did in the freezing,
deadly cold waqter was man overboard training and kayaking. I was in a cold
shock. Tomorrow, we might to the log cabin information centre, maybe for a
show.

Today is a nice day. I felt very tired but I can learn a lot
of things. We got back to the water again, the weather was very sunny. The sea
water were very cold. I learn how to kayak. I can swim 1 km in the water. I
felt very proud of it. I felt today was very fantastic, because I can learn a
lot of things.

Today it was a water day because we are in wate for a half
day and wash the equipment. First, I went to kayak and I swim, but I didn’t
swim all the way.
We didn’t end up going on the water today as the wind was a
bit on the strong side. We ate a breakfast of oatmeal and ham before heading
down for a hike that went out of the park and eventually along the beach. When
we stopped for a break along the edge of the lake, Billy gave us a lecture on
the receding waters of Lake Ontario. We walked in a loop back to our campsite,
where Kenny gave us an exercise of attention and concentration; asking us
questions such as “how many cars passed us on the way there?” And “How many
dead fish were there on the beach?”
After, we played some communication games with Kenny, like
lining up facing a direction, and having to get to a destination with only one
person moving at a time, with no verbal or overt physical cues. We then had a
lunch of instant noodles and sausages. After lunch, we went to the ampitheatre for
another lesson by Kenny. We did some group activities, then did some individual
presentations up on the stage, introducing ourselves. From these introductions,
we learned proper presentation skills, such as projecting our voices, and
maintaining eye contact. We then moved on to a group drama exercise involving a
strange baby named Jade, picked up at a riverbank by a remote (and apparently
cannibalistic) village in Australia. We really got into role then, with a group
of “monks,” and a more animalistic group calling for blood.
We had a dinner of rice, zucchini, ground beef, and tomato
sauce. Hopefully, there will be smooth sailing tomorrow!

Grace

i remember doing that!

ReplyDeleteDear Jenn, were you too tired to write/type today(July 25)? Or, were you too busy at struggling with those veggies? We had a constant thunder storm all night here. Hope you all were fine.
